50HP Tractor Hydraulic Remotes: How Many Do You Need?

First-time buyers of a 50HP tractor usually work down the spec sheet: engine power, four-wheel drive, PTO. Hydraulics often get skipped, or never come up at all. That's fine right up until the machine starts earning its keep. What holds you up then isn't the engine. It's running out of outlets.

Adding a front-end loader to a tractor, then trying to use a mower, sprayer, or tipping trailer at the same time? The determining factors are the number and type of hydraulic circuits. And power still counts for plenty. Sort the hydraulic side out at the same time.

What Are Tractor Rear Hydraulic Remotes?

Rear hydraulic remotes connect implements to the tractor’s hydraulic system through quick couplers. With a double-acting circuit, these remotes can operate hydraulic top links, tipping trailers, folding mowers, and sprayers.

Some implements need a float setting to follow uneven ground. So before buying, check both the circuit type your implements require—single- or double-acting—and whether float is available where needed.

How Many 50HP Tractor Hydraulic Remotes Do You Need?

Work it out from the jobs you do, not from how many implements are parked in the shed.

· Front loader. Boom lift and bucket tilt usually require two hydraulic functions; a log grapple or four-in-one bucket may need a third.

· Hydraulic top link. One hydraulic circuit is enough to adjust mounted implements.

· Mower or tedder. Offset and folding sections vary. Budget one or two.

· Sprayer. Boom fold and height control can need several between them. A hydraulic pump needs its own supply.

· Tipping trailer. One, as a rule.

A mixed farm that loads, mows, sprays and hauls usually settles on three circuits.

Why Tractor Hydraulics Matter Even More Once a Loader Goes On

On a 50HP tractor, few attachments lean on the hydraulics harder than a front loader.

Fit one, and you've built yourself a loader tractor. Now for the part people leave too late: the third function. Grapple, bale squeeze, or four-in-one bucket, whatever you're considering has to be allowed for while the machine is still being specified.

The OXPLO OX504 is a fair case in point. It's a 50HP four-wheel-drive tractor that can be supplied with a loader. If you expect to spend years loading, shifting material and cleaning up around the farm, lift capacity is only half the question. Find out what hydraulic functions the loader calls for as well.

Decide on the loader at purchase and plan the hydraulics to suit. Adapting the machine once it's in the yard is the costly route.

Remote Count Is Not the Whole Story

Two tractors can carry the same number of remotes and behave completely differently. Pump flow counts. So do reservoir capacity, and what the implement is asking of them.

Try not to leave a circuit stalled against its relief valve for long stretches. With motor-driven equipment, work out the return path properly instead of assuming. Check couplers and seals as well.

And when a tractor starts feeling weak, don't blame the pump straight away. A worn coupler leaking internally does a convincing impression of tired tractor hydraulics.

In short, remote count tells you how many functions you can plug in. Flow tells you whether they'll work once they are.

Don't Choose a 50HP Tractor on Horsepower Alone.

Power is one line on a long list. Once the tractor is on the farm, the remotes, the flow, and how well it matches your loader and implements shape the working day just as much.

Write your implement list first. Note which hydraulic functions each one needs. Then spec the tractor to suit, and you'll skip most of the retrofitting headaches later.

If you're after a 50HP four-wheel-drive tractor for Australian conditions, the OXPLO OX504 is worth a look. Confirm the hydraulic spec against your loader and implements up front, and the machine fits the job from day one.
